Note: Since the early 1980s, Senate leaders — majority and minority leaders, and the president pro tempore — have received higher salaries than other members. Currently, leaders earn $193,400 per year.
I also ranked the Top 5 Years that the Senate was paid adjusted for inflation. Those numbers are in parentheses. So next time someone shouts out”This Senate is over-paid!” You can tell them not by the Senate from the early 90′s. But at least those guys left us with a surplus.

Looking at the Clinton years – six years of steady salaries – no increases. Which meant of course, they were making less each year. But it tracks with the tremendous inroads that administration made in cutting costs and actually reducing the size of government. I don’t remember any time before or since when that happened.
